2023 Retro - SLIDHR

"Triumphant and impassioned Irish Black Metal, and quite the statement of contempt!" (Lorenzo/Bandcamp)

Five years after unleashing the harrowing "The Futile Fires Of Man", SLIDHR's visionary J. Deegan reemerged with eight tracks of unbridled ferocity, imbued with deep-seated hate and disdain. In the twelfth installment of our retrospective series, we delve into "White Hart!", the band's triumphant return to DMP. "He who desires the serpent's touch
To soothe the burns and elude the strike
He who does seek to deceive the lords
Must break the chains
" ('The Bloodied Tongue')

"White Hart!", SLIDHR's third album, invokes the primal warrior spirit in man. It stands as the band's most powerful spell of destruction yet, infused with fervor, loathing and poison. The record comprises eight new tracks of aggressive relentlessness, interspersed with ominous, foreboding segments, all accentuated by a lyrical war against the horrors of the modern age - a clarion call to defend against the annihilation of nature, the suppression of freedom, and the ascent of tyranny:

"Through the grinding of teeth until night becomes day
And the song of the bird is our only sign
That the festering rage must consume our lives
The coals of hatred that drive fists through walls
Burning anger granting impossible strength
Sever the rope when hate's noose tightens
" ('Hate's Noose Tightens')

Deegan shares his vision for SLIDHR in 2024 and reveals his top 10 albums of 2023:

"In these strange times as we surf the Kali Yuga, it can be difficult to plan too much. Our markers through the years are no longer fond memories, rather the actions of tyrants. We rarely look to the future with excitement anymore. This has been replaced with black clouds and the dread of 'what next...?' At least we still have some decent music for the time being, albeit less and less. Enjoy the bread and circuses while you can!"
