"All of LIGHT OF THE MORNING STAR's songs are written with the hope that the listener feels immersed in darkness, with images of flickering candles and things shifting in the night passing through their mind; if there is a centerpiece to the creation of this atmosphere, 'There Are Many Shadows' is it. It was the first song written for “Charnel Noir”, and contributed greatly to setting the overall direction of the album, in musical ethos. This is where MAYHEM's musical influence is most prominent in LIGHT OF THE MORNING STAR.

'There Are Many Shadows' is a song about the indescribable, palpable terror felt in the presence of immaterial malevolence, ghastly and hidden. It is a song about hauntings."
