2024 Retro – LIGHT OF THE MORNING STAR

"… the bloodline of the damned until the end of all …" ('Aura')

In the tenth installment of our retrospective series, we heed a call from beyond the grave. Following up 2021's acclaimed "Charnel Noir", LIGHT OF THE MORNING STAR last year unveiled four hauntingly beautiful tracks in the form of new mini-album, "Wings in the Night Sky." Explore additional entries in the series on our website, featuring 2024 masterpieces by AKHLYS, ULCERATE, and SELBST, among others.

The band's darkest, coldest, and most monumental offering to date, "Wings in the Night Sky" delivers four nocturnal compositions that channel the haunted essence of their acclaimed previous album, "Charnel Noir," stripped of its romanticism and imbued with an even more sinister malevolence. Free from kitsch and sentimentality, LIGHT OF THE MORNING STAR conjure death in all its dreadful, haunting facets with chilling gothic precision.

LIGHT OF THE MORNING STAR shared the following about this release:

""Wings in the Night Sky" is fixed immutably in the chill of the grave. Unholy, insatiable hunger…the terrible discovery of new, unseen gateways and paths…and the genesis and absolute essence of unforgiving ghostly vampirism."

"… lanterns in the gleaming night with phantoms as their lights …" ('Phantomlights')

Noble and elegant, yet undeniably ghastly, tracks such as 'Night Falls' and 'Phantomlights' leave the listener yearning for more from this ominous entity. Devotees of the dark Arts will delight in knowing that the EP's final track, 'Aura', was written and arranged in collaboration with J. Kvarnbrink of MORTUUS – one of the greatest inspirations for mastermind O-S, as he has openly declared:

"In our eyes "Grape of the Vine" is the masterwork; the ultimate distillation of the true essence of Black Metal, and one of the purest demonstrations of dark art ever captured to tape."

As a standout moment in 2024, last October LIGHT OF THE MORNING STAR brought their vampiric artistry to life at our very own Servants of Chaos festival in an exceptionally rare performance. Explore live shots from the event captured by photographer e.lu.lu here!

"…another night awaits, cold, burial chamber cold …" ('Burial Chamber Cold')

Ever shrouded in mystery, band leader O-A offers only cryptic hints about the band's plans for 2025, suggesting that they may arise sooner than anticipated:

"The release of our "Wings in the Night Sky" EP in 2024 was extremely satisfying, as was performing at the Servants of Chaos festival in October. With that, the next chapter of LIGHT OF THE MORNING STAR has begun. JSM and I have begun clawing at the dirt in our crypts once more. Also, for all fans of true horror, we would like to mention that Robin Carolan's score for the recent adaptation of "Nosferatu" was the perfect musical conclusion to the year."
