In the second instalment of our annual retrospective series (find the initial episode on WAIDELOTTE's "Celestial Shrine" here), we revisit our first Death Metal release of 2024. The enigmatic and foreboding Basque Country entity PESTILENGTH followed-up the acclaimed "Basom Gryphos" (2022) with this year's "Solar Clorex" featuring 9 cryptic and crawling odes to decay.

Grotesque vocals erupt, smother, and reignite; serrated riffs bristle with venom, slithering and shifting into bursts of electrifying violence; relentless rhythms oscillate between cavernous churns, chaotic frenzies, jagged grooves, and sheer brutality…

Composer and multi-instrumentalist M. reveals his favourite albums of 2024 and offers a glimpse into PESTILENGTH's plans for 2025:

01. HERESIARCH "Edifice"
A long awaited assault, and it does not disappoint. Straight forward sanguinary Death Metal: it is cruel, sad, there is no fate nor hope in this album. I listened to it several times and more to come. It worth the wait, go and buy it.

02. ADVERSARIAL "Solitude With The Eternal"
Another awaited album, this time they kept the mysticism or atmospheric hellish aura away to just deliver pure violent nightmares through bestial chants of underworldly acts. In general terms, the sound fills every corner of the room! And I do really like the vocal madness in track 3, if I am not mistaken. Definitely a must-buy!

03. CONVULSING "Perdurance"
What could I say about this talented man – Brendan Sloan (ALTARS). This time he shifted into a purer essence of his own dialect. He is a great composer and knows how to make it 'listenable'. I admit this should be one of the albums of the year without a doubt!

"What 2025 will bring for PESTILENGTH? The band is currently shaping album number four, as many must know, we are unpredictable, but we know to how to do it: the trademarks of previous work are there but new landscapes will appear this time. Corrosion is our only way to go. Now six songs are almost written; different accents this time and new challenges will be taken into account. We expect our weird supporters to enjoy the suffering as it is meant to be. Lyrically speaking, it will be half based on real events and the floating halos of death; survival through pain or a painful way to survive, you choose...!"
